The short version of how matching works

You fill out one free request form, we pass it to lenders in our network that may be able to help, and any lender that can make an offer shows you its terms so you can decide.

We are a connector, not a lender. We never set the rate, approve the loan or send the money. That keeps the service free for you and lets several lenders compete for the same request instead of one lender reviewing it alone. People who search hidden meadow lending usually want to know exactly what happens to their information, so the steps below cover each stage in order.

Five steps from request to funding

The process has five steps, and most people finish the first two in about five minutes and see whether a lender can help within the same session.

  1. Tell us what you need. Choose an amount from $500 to $5,000 and the reason, such as debt consolidation, a car repair or a funeral bill.
  2. Share your details. Enter contact information, income, employment, housing and your checking account type. Lenders need these to review a request.
  3. Get matched. Your request goes to lenders whose criteria fit. One may present an offer on screen; others may follow up by phone or email.
  4. Compare the offer. Check the APR, monthly payment, term, fees and total repayment in the lender's disclosure. Use our payment calculator to compare.
  5. Accept and get funded. If you accept, you sign with the lender. Funds can arrive as soon as the next business day, depending on the lender and your bank.

What lenders look at when they review a request

Lenders mainly review your credit history, income, existing debt payments and state of residence, and each lender weighs those factors differently, which is why one request can produce different offers or none.

Most lenders begin with a soft credit inquiry, which shows them your score and history without affecting it. They compare your monthly income with the debts you already pay, often called your debt-to-income ratio. A borrower earning $3,200 a month who already pays $900 toward a car loan and credit cards has a ratio of about 28%, which many lenders see as manageable. A ratio above 40% can make approval harder or lead to a smaller amount. Paying down a credit card balance before you apply can lower that ratio quickly.

State rules also matter. Some states cap interest rates on small loans or restrict which lenders can operate, so a request from one state may reach a different set of lenders than the same request from another. Lenders also check that you meet basic requirements: you must be at least 18 (19 in Alabama and Nebraska), have a valid SSN or ITIN, regular income and an active checking account.

Credit scores across the range are considered, and some lenders focus on borrowers with fair or poor credit. Those offers usually carry higher APRs, because the lender is taking on more risk, and the amount approved may be smaller than the amount requested. A borrower who asked for $2,500 might see an offer for $1,500 instead. If you are looking for bad credit loans, expect that, and compare a shorter term or a smaller amount to keep the total cost down. The full list of requirements is on the eligibility page, and typical rate ranges are explained on the rates page.

04

What stays in your control the whole time

You decide whether to accept any offer, how much to borrow within what a lender approves, and whether lenders may keep contacting you after your request.

  • Checking offers is free and does not oblige you to borrow
  • You can ask to accept a smaller amount than you were approved for
  • You can stop texts by replying STOP and unsubscribe from emails
  • You can ask us to remove your details from future matching

If something about an offer feels unclear, ask the lender before you sign. A legitimate lender will explain every fee and give you written disclosures. Anyone who asks for an upfront payment to release a loan is not a real lender; report it to us right away.

05

What happens after your loan is funded

After funding, your loan is managed entirely by the lender, so payments, payoff quotes, due-date changes and hardship requests all go to the lender's customer service, not to us.

Most lenders let you set up autopay, which reduces the chance of a late fee and sometimes earns a small rate discount. Many also allow early payoff without a penalty, which can save a meaningful amount of interest. If you ever struggle to make a payment, call the lender before the due date; many offer short extensions or modified plans. Our guide on missing a personal loan payment explains the options.
